Listening to Tegan & Sara - Dancing In The Dark

Eh dammitlacb... i was supposed to have a friendly next friday at Fernvale with the soccer girls, against a German school. I was so excited, my first game leh... BUT THEN HOR, the annoying people at onTRAC decided to put the internship briefing on that very same day. Very same time. SO CB RIGHT?! Even if the briefing is only an hour long (asif), i'll only be able to go down to the field at like 5.30 plus plus?! Which is very late... Sigh. I'll ask the girls how long they're playing and see how. At most i just go down and rahrah cheerleader for 5 min then balik.

i just bidded for my courses next term... Bidded for one computer course, one marketing course, one bahasa melayu course and alot of finance. I felt so sad after looking at my potential timetable you know :( But funny thing is... i'll be sad yet estatic if i do get the internship with Exxon next term, cos that means i get to start on my career (so excite), but it means that i'll be missing out on everything school... No terri georgia 'eh you have class tdy' meetings, no ultra fun presentations, no making new friends cos i insist on bidding alone, whatsmore no SOCCER :( at all leh. Cos trainings are in the late afternoon... Fuck its quite sad. And after hearing mavis' horror stories about her collegues, i'm quite scared... The possibilities are really quite terrifying.

Anyway i'll keep everyone posted on my interview outcome... Meanwhile, GO WRITE YOUR REPORTS (haha). No, actually seriously... Go start already you lazy asses.

377A

Listening to Your Hand In Mine by Explosions In The Sky

Regarding the Penal Code, s377A. Did you read the article on Insight, Strait Times just yesterday? I cannot believe the kinds of arguments people bring up for the keeping of 377A, they simply sound childish, homophobic and downright narrow minded. The main argument that they asserted was that, "Majority of Singaporeans are not ready for homosexuality." They claimed that "a sizable majority wants to keep it.." and also that the repeal "would force homosexuality on a conservative population that is not ready for homosexuality." Since when has the morals (or lackthereof) of the majority equate to it being "right"? Thats an obvious fallacy on its own (appeal to popularity). I dont understand how our 21st century city country with its educated, globalized people can remain so inherently prejudiced.

Ask yourself, who is getting hurt by this silly code? The government says they will not be proactive in enforcing the section, so no one has or will be charged under it. But the fact that it remains part of the Constitution, that it is still essentially a crime, reflects the negative views that people have toward gays. Wanting to keep 377A means that people believe homosexuality should remain as a crime. The silly people who came up with "Keep377A", they argue that oh, right now Singapore is a conservative state. Wait a few years later then maybe we can do it then because by then we will be more open-minded and ready for homosexuality. What they dont see is that - by keeping it as a crime, what kind of message are you sending to the younger generation? Youths will grow up with discriminatory laws firmly placed there by their elders, by those in power, by the people they respect and look up to for guidance. Its exactly like slavery in the US, no white child of that era could ever see a black slave as an equal or human, simply because they were raised that way, with the whole of society and their own family telling them that slavery was okay.

For the young who are gay, imagine what the code is saying to him or her. That it is a crime to engage in gay activities (in private even!), that society does not treat you the same as heteros.. What kind of pressure is that for someone growing up? Knowing that society is not only "not ready" to accept you, but in addition, criminalizes your chosen gay lifestyle?

This is absolute madness, this country is. I somehow feel like we're stuck in this draconian rut but just with flowers on the walls around us and happy music being blasted in our ears to keep us smiling. I detest discrimination. In any form, in all forms. You cannot deny that this is discrimination, presented in a motherly way of "i know what is best for you" and sprinkled with politically side-stepped correctness, thrown in with lamer arguments of the blind, narrow-minded masses who think they know whats best for the country and who simply refuse to admit the fact that they do not want to give gays their freedom (because honestly, does it really matter, does it really really directly affect them what gays do??), and insist on sitting up in their self erected high chair; pointing, condemning the morality of others when all along four fingers are pointing right back at themselves.

For additional readings, try http://mollymeek.livejournal.com/167752.html and http://theonlinecitizen.com/2007/10/10/377a-to-prevent-what-harm/. This is a joke, http://www.keep377a.com/
but i suggest looking through it just to see the pitiful types of arguments people come up with. A few,

"
i think that S377A should be kept and that it is totally ridiculous to allow homosexuality in Singapore as it would totally teach children that homosexuality is okay and that it is morally correct"
"If ethics and moral standard became relative, future govenment will have more problems to rule this country. One of the success stories of MM Lee in ruling Singapore is his belief in good moral life and his showed it by his example too. To gain popular votes at the expense of gradual disintergration of a country is short-sightedness !"

The most embarrassing article has to be "Decriminalising homosexual acts would be an error" written by Yvonne Lee who is an assistant professor who teaches company law and constitutional law at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore. Her arguments were supported by unproven claims and were "full of misleading rhetoric" as Dr Khoo Hoon Eng cleverly responds here, http://safesingapore.blogspot.com/2007/05/following-was-written-by-dr-khoo-hoon.html there have been many responses to her poorly written article and you can easily look them up :)

Kiwi <3

Saturday, October 13, 2007

I got my sis to help take a couple of pics of me and kiwi for mavis' article she's writing on dog health and exercise or something like that. Pardon the sheer sweaty, grimy and unglam-ness of it all, but we just got back from a walk and we were both pretty beat. And yet i forced my poor baby to take pics of her in that weary state because in any other, she'd never let us (she detests the cam). So in these two following pics, i kinda forced her to smile, and she ended up giving such fucking adorable faces that i'm willing to put them up even though i'm featured squatting very ladylike in the sand with the cutest ever outfit on. But, MY PUPPY DOG IS ADORABLE!

Thursday, October 04, 2007

I joined the Women Soccer Team in SMU... I've never actually tried another competitive sport, usually i play for fun; like basketball or swimming or whatever. So the first training was quite exciting cos i really think i have two left feet when it came to feet + balls! But i like the idea that there is the whole other community of people who are into sports - just that their chosen poison is soccer. Its like our premiere league + under21 + 7aside carnivals + pesta sukan + everyyythinggg all over again! But with NEW FACES! SO EXCITE RIGHT.
